Male Pattern Baldness

Male Pattern Baldness (Androgenetic Alopecia)

Male Pattern Baldness is the most common form of hair loss in men, affecting about 50% of men by the age of 50. It is largely hereditary and progresses in a predictable pattern over time.

  • Causes: Male pattern baldness is mostly caused by genetics and the presence of a male hormone called dihydrotestosterone (DHT). DHT causes hair follicles to shrink, leading to shorter, thinner hair strands.
  • Symptoms: It often starts with a receding hairline or thinning at the crown of the head. Over time, these areas expand until significant baldness remains on the top of the scalp, with only a ring of hair around the sides and back.
  • Treatment Options: At our Birmingham clinic, we offer a range of treatments, including hair replacement, PRP (Platelet Rich Plasma) therapy, laser hair regrowth therapy, and medications such as finasteride or minoxidil. Our specialists can customise a treatment plan based on the severity of your hair loss and your personal preferences.
