Platelet Rich Plasma
Platelet rich plasma often referred as PRP is a treatment which involves obtaining a sample of the patient’s blood, which is then prepared in a process called differential centrifugation. The process is used as a force to obtain the certain components from the blood sample. Blood is made up of different composition like white blood cells, red blood cells, plasma and platelets. The process of segregating the blood components allows the phlebotomist and trained PRP clinician to carefully inject the extracted platelet rich plasma into the concerned areas.
The plasmas constitute between 52 and 62 percent of whole blood. It is a straw like- coloured fluid in which blood cells, proteins, and other substances are suspended and transported. The platelets constitute less than 1 percent of whole blood. These form clots, blocking blood from existing wounds.
The utility of PRP is increasing in the field of dermatology and aesthetics in conjunction with hair restoration. Many studies have indicated that regular treatments of PRP with hair restoration has helped to rejuvenate, stimulate and increase growth considerably. PRP can be incorporated with any existing hair treatment, like laser restoration programmes of photo modulation and Hair transplantations.
Furthermore, PRP is a product that is formulated from ones own natural body product, thus has minimum risk of allergic reactions and other risks. venepuncture treatment like PRP does have the risk of bleeding, bruises and swelling post treatment, these will be discussed with yourself in your consultation prior to any treatment.
